Relief for Dry, Irritated Eyes
Dry eye can cause burning, irritation, watering, fluctuating vision and everyday discomfort. We take the time to identify what may be contributing to your symptoms and create a personalized treatment plan for your eyes.
Understanding Dry Eye
What is Dry Eye Disease?
Dry eye occurs when your eyes don't produce enough tears, when your tears evaporate too quickly, or when the tear film doesn't function as it should. This can lead to ongoing irritation, discomfort, and changes in the quality of your vision.
While artificial tears may provide temporary relief, persistent dry eye symptoms may require a more targeted approach. During your evaluation, Dr. Garn assesses your eye health, tear function, and symptoms to help identify contributing factors and recommend treatment based on your individual needs.
Common symptoms of dry eye include:
Personalized Dry Eye Care
Treating the Cause, Not Just the Symptoms
Dry eye can have different causes, which is why treatment isn't one-size-fits-all. Dr. Garn evaluates the health of your ocular surface and tear film to better understand what may be contributing to your symptoms.
Based on your individual needs, your treatment plan may include therapies designed to improve tear quality, reduce evaporation, restore comfort, and support long-term eye health.
Treatment options may include MiBoFlo® thermal treatment, punctal plugs, prescription or lubricating eye drops, lid hygiene, and personalized at-home care.
Dry Eye Treatment Options
At Ironwood Vision Center, dry eye treatment is personalized based on the underlying cause of your symptoms, the health of your ocular surface, and the quality of your tear film. Treatment may include:
MiboFlo® Thermal Treatment
MiboFlo is a gentle, controlled heat applied to the eyelids to help improve meibomian gland function and support a healthier tear film.
During treatment, controlled therapeutic heat is applied to the outer eyelids to help soften thickened oils within the meibomian glands and support healthier oil flow. Improving the quality of these oils can help reduce tear evaporation and relieve symptoms associated with evaporative dry eye.
MiboFlo may be recommended for patients experiencing symptoms such as dryness, burning, irritation, fluctuating vision, or tired, uncomfortable eyes.
Dr. Garn will determine whether MiboFlo is appropriate based on your individual dry eye evaluation.
Punctal Plugs Treatment
Tiny plugs placed in the tear drainage ducts to help your natural tears remain on the surface of the eyes longer, providing additional moisture and comfort.
For patients whose eyes do not retain enough moisture, Dr. Garn may recommend punctal plugs. These tiny devices are gently placed in the tear drainage openings to slow tear drainage and help your natural tears remain on the eye longer.
Punctal plugs can provide additional relief for certain patients with persistent dry eye and can be used alone or as part of a personalized dry eye treatment plan.
